Jewels

Jewels is my latest creation –  a simple yet polished match-3 game similar to the original Bejeweled. The game is currently available for the Google Android -platform, through the Android Market. It has gathered lots of active players and is in the top-3 free games for Android! Try it if you like puzzle / match-3 games, it can be quite addictive! It’s free (although ad-supported) as well. :)

I’m currently working on bringing Jewels to the Apple App Store, for iPhone and iPod touch, with several improvements over the Android-version. Stay tuned for more information!

Available on the Android Market

Jewels for Android features:

  • Global High Scores / Leaderboards — compete with players around the world! (courtesy of Scoreloop)
  • Three game modes: normal, timed and infinite
  • Nice, clean graphics and polished game play

There is also the original PC-version of Jewels, done in 2007 as an exercise in XNA / C# programming. However, I will most definitely recommend the Android-version, as the game works quite a lot better as a casual mobile game.

I bet you could sell thousands the first day alone. Well here to hoping.

Very nice, well rounded game, if a little hard to get past level 5… but well done all the same!
One slight problem occurs though but I don’t know whether it’s the program or my phone (motorola dext); sometimes part of the screen doesn’t respond to touch but this can usually be fixed by resetting the screen; but this is a little tricky in a timed game.

Have you any other droid games?

My g/f has an HTC ERIS and I’m pretty addicted to this, I have an iPhone and BlackBerry, think you’ll come up with support for either of them?

  4. [...] Jewels is the best version of a Bejeweled style game for android. It has the best graphics and cleanest game board of any other jewel type game I’ve downloaded. It also has quick responses to each move and generates very different board each time you play. [...]

    The game is great.

Have you considered to move to a better free software license such as the GPL v3?

I don’t think codeplex allow this, maybe you should switch to gforce or savannah instead.

Not really, no. IMHO the license is fine as it is. :)

not support a phone with 360*640 resoultion.
    only show 6*8 jewels.

Game is great, fast and fun. Would be nice if I could see the or a battery monitor while playing. Kinda eats the battery on the moto droid. Thanx for your efforts.

  9. I’m running Jewels on an HTC Desire, and I have a couple of problems/comments:

    - It will regularly freeze, forcing a forced quit. This usually happens when I’m trying to start a new game, normally when trying to press the “Timed game” button.

    - If the game fails to connect to the highscore server to record a high score, it will then also forget to store the score locally, instead losing the score entirely.

    - Several times, it has happened to me that the game says “Timeout” *after* I have made a move to remove jewels, and jewels have moved in the screen. I think the timeout should never happen in the middle of a move.

In spite of this, it’s a good game that I return to.
