I Have No Tomatoes
I Have No Tomatoes. Funny name, funny game, huh?
It’s designed to be enjoyed in short breaks, when you just have to waste ten minutes of your time. With Tomatoes, you can have some fun while at it! Released in 2004, with nice isometric 3d graphics and cool music. Try it! ![]()

Great game. Fun to play, addicting and has nice graphs aswell.
Any chances of this getting ported to the iPhone/iPod Touch?
Thanks.
An iPhone port is of course possible, although it would take quite a bit of work to do. Unfortunately I don’t have the device let alone a Mac, so there’s no way I could go about it. Interesting idea, nevertheless.
I was looking into porting it to the DS, but I don’t think it’s technically feasible without some serious rewriting.
Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it. The code is a mess, it might be even easier to start from scratch.
Mike, I’m using “I Have No Tomatoes” to test video problems on a laptop (OK, I admit, I’m addicted) and can get it working OK, but have problems with available video RAM (on a 16M card, tweaking xorg.conf). I want to modify the game to make some of the large background textures smaller. I know nothing about modern (GL, etc.) graphics programming, is this easy to do? Can you point me in a general direction in code or does any code even need to be changed? I can handle any programming or math issues and am fairly good with GIMP also.
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
Dan
Hi Dan,
I can send you a script that can be used to unpack the tomatoes.mpk file. Then you can scale the background images down with GIMP and repack the .mpk file again.
Hi, I enjoyed playing your game, and I have a question : what about the music ? Did you create it ? If not, who is the artist who did create IHaveNoTomatoes.it ? (because it pleased me)
My friend Teemu created the music as well as designed most of the game. It’s a good little tune, agreed.
Hey – I’m playing with the source because I want to hack in some new features. I can’t get this to compile under Ubuntu. It reeeeeeeaaaaallly wants fmod.h. I haven’t tried that hard to get it from fmod.org, but I saw in the changelist that there was a patch to use sdl_mixer instead. So is it possible to compile this without fmod?
Oh, and while I’m commenting I forgot to say: Thanks for this game. Super addictive, really fun. I appreciate your work. And despite your saying your code is a mess, it’s actually quite readable and easy to browse. I’m impressed.
Thanks, Jon!
As for your question: there was an old patch for sdl_mixer, it is still available at http://tomatoes.sf.net downloads. I’m unsure if it works without modifications, though. But you’ll get it sorted out, I’m sure.
How about merging these patches and releasing a new version:
http://patch-tracker.debian.org/package/tomatoes/1.55-4
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/to/tomatoes/tomatoes.tar.gz
http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/games-arcade/tomatoes/files/
Like the game and it plays fine on 2 of 3 Ubuntu laptops I have. However, on one I only see about 1/4 of the screen; the upper left corner. Any ideas? I can provide screen shots or specs if it will help.
The Ubuntu link you provide on GetDeb:
http://www.getdeb.net/app.php?name=I%20Have%20No%20Tomatoes
no longer works.
Alright, thanks for the heads-up!
Taking it out..
Hi.
I have ported “I Have No Tomatoes” to OpenPandora (converting OpenGL to OpenGL-ES).
You can find the binaries here: http://repo.openpandora.org/?page=detail&app=tomatoes_ptitseb
And some discution and modified source code here: http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php/topic/13113-i-have-no-tomatoes/
