Ultimate Steroids

Ultimate Steroids from year 2001 is by far the most successful game of mine (with the exception of Jewels). It’s one of the few games I’m proud of.. :) As you may have guessed already, it’s a sequel to the Steroids. Spiffed up Asteroids clone with OpenGL driven graphics. Check it out!

The Ultimate Steroids is, as the original Steroids was, an Asteroids-clone. Basically, you jump to the cockpit of a space ship, and burst through the space shooting space rocks, asteroids. You collect some power up -bonuses and slowly increase your firepower. You will encounter some hazards during your mission such as evil aliens and strange black holes. The Ultimate Steroids is 100% freeware.

The game features OpenGL accelerated 3d graphics, sound and music, up to 10 weapon grades and up to 22 levels. Balanced gameplay with beautiful rendered backgrounds and colorful 3d graphics. There is also a support for two players, either in a co-operation or in a competition. In addition, the competition mode allows you to set various game play settings.

Congrats on your wedding! I downloaded Ultimate Steroids, but it stopped at only 1MB twice. The third time it completed, and unzipped, quite nicely! Thank you from USA!

Thanks. :) Must be something going on with the server, good that it worked finally though.

Still among the best looking and best playing asteroid clones ever, and the simultaneous two player option is a treat. I’ve had this game since ’03 and still play it occasionally. A fantastic game, it’s high quality holds up perfectly even today, it runs smoothly on my very old Win98 PC as well as a new Vista PC. Congratulations Mika, and thanks for the great free stuff!

An incredible game! So great that it completely doesn’t matter when it’s made. I’ve much respect that you publish it as freeware, thank you very much, Mika.

Occasionally, I’ve thought about making a sequel for the iOS platform. The controls might be problematic, but hard to say without testing with a prototype.

Hi Mika, i was wondering, like Charlie if u will release this excelent game for android. Cheers

No plans as such at the moment, but you’ll never know. :) It would require some prototyping on how to realise the controls for a touch screen device, that was the main reason I never pursued the Steroids3 / Ultimate Steroids 2 idea further..
